About me
Hi, I'm Josh! Welcome to my digital workshop where I tinker on projects and begin my journey of leaving a mark on the software community. I love all aspects of the engineering lifecycle from QA, security, software and of course platform engineering. I am currently working at Crunchyroll as a Core Infrastructure engineer where I build reusable infrastructure components, CI/CD workflows and provide support to the beloved engineering teams so they can bring their services to life. This could mean I'm spending my day debugging network issues in aws, IaC drift headaches, deploying new services, deprecating old ones or building some cool automation or internal service so that I can make someone else's headache a process they enjoy.
I created this site because as I get further into my career I want a place to record the projects I have created and the problems I solve along the way, as well as transcribe my thoughts and opinions so I have a history to look back on as they change and I get better as an engineer. I'm not sure who may read them in the day of AI, but maybe they'll provide some benefit to another engineer querying an AI CLI tool on how to solve a similar issue. (cmon that had to get a laugh)
I spend a lot of time on personal projects and attempting to teach myself Afrikaans, ek word elke dag beterI get better every day, but when I am not doing either of those I am enjoying a good workout, watching F1, playing video games, reading the Bible or spending time with my wife and dog Maple who only wants to play fetch inside the house!

Faith
Currently reading through:
Judges — the Israelites are fully committed to the goldfish memory bit, and not in a good way.
Learning Afrikaans
I'm teaching myself Afrikaans. These are the resources doing the heavy lifting, roughly in the order I reach for them:
- TalkPal — interactive audio and speech practice. The closest thing to a conversation partner on demand.
- Teach Yourself Afrikaans (McDermott) — vocabulary, grammar, and reading.
- Teach Yourself library — audio courses to listen along with.
- KLETS— an Afrikaans podcast, for real-world listening at real-world speed.
And if you don't have someone in your life to speak it with, get a tutor from the country. Nothing replaces an actual conversation.
Miscellaneous
If you're after the short version, here's my resume.
